Developing the next generation of industry leading studiosFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Austin, Texas (October 7th , 2008) - The third annual Independent Game Conference (IGC) will feature keynotes from two leading industry figures at the forefront of innovation in game development– Nexon Publishing North America’s Steve Rechtschaffner and Wideload Games’ Alex Seropian. The Conference (IGC) offers attendees a two-day program focused on technology and business issues and the critical issues affecting the survival and growth of independent game developers. The two-day, two-track program will include how to raise money to invest in a game studio, emerging development platforms, development for the iPhone, game politics, IP protection, game audio design and recruiting vs. outsourcing. The conference will include the hugely successful Game Demo Night where developers show off their latest games to their peers.
Steve Rechtschaffner is chief creative officer at Nexon Publishing North America, the Vancouver-based developer for Nexon Corporation. Nexon is a pioneer of interactive entertainment software and the world's leader in massively multiplayer online games. Nexon has mastered the revenue model of offering high quality online games that are free to play and generate revenue by selling various in-game items to players. Before joining NPNA, Steve worked as the vice president and creative director for Electronic Arts’ Worldwide Studio group. Prior to that, he held the title of chief creative officer for EA’s biggest studio, EA Canada.
Alex Seropian is the founder and CEO of Wideload Games, Inc. where he has crafted a new kind of game development process that utilizes an external development model similar to film production. Alex began his career as the founder and CEO of Bungie Software and under his guidance, the company created some of the most celebrated game franchises in the industry, including Marathon, Myth, Oni, and Halo.
“We are delighted to have Steve and Alex as keynote presenters” said Steve Farrer, Executive Director of the IGC,“their experience and innovative approach to business will set the tone for the event. The IGC will deliver practical insights and techniques that game developers can implement immediately to help them survive and thrive in an increasingly competitive market.”
