GarageGames releases TGEA 1.7 for Advanced 3D Game Development
For Immediate Release
Eugene, OR, April 4, 2008 -- GarageGames, the leading technology provider for independent game developers, has released version 1.7 of their Torque Game Engine Advanced. In addition to offering support for most high-end video cards and now with rendering fallbacks all the way to DirectX 8, TGEA 1.7 comes with new game examples to allow users to quickly prototype and produce PC games. With TGEA, developers can harness cutting edge shaders produced with 3rd party tools and apply post processing effects like glow, bloom, HDR, FSAA and other features of modern game development.
"This version probably introduces the biggest performance improvement Torque has ever seen," commented Matt Fairfax, who spearheaded development of this release for GarageGames. "In addition to focusing specific attention on stability, huge swaths of code got refactored and we've seen frame rates double and even triple in some of our standard test cases. We did a lot to improve usability too. TGEA 1.7 ships with a combination of new game examples and smoother documentation that will make it much easier for everyone to make great-looking 3D games."
The new release of TGEA 1.7 also introduces MegaTerrains (64 sq. km and up) complete with full realtime editor support, a brand new and completely abstracted sound system (SFX), and several other usability updates and fixes. TGEA also supports cross platform development under separate license with Torque 360 for Xbox 360 developers.
