Give Pac-Man An Extra Life

This isn’t Pop Idol, it’s far more important. Are videogames art? They are if you make them art, and that is what we need you to do. If you don’t? We have an actual Portal gun so getting to you will be easy. You’ll see a red ring appear on your wall, and then it’s BIG TROUBLE.

Last year, a real-life Pac-Man installation wowed the crowds at the Plus Festival in Birmingham, UK. People‘became’ Pac-Man, got inside a maze, and tried to evade ghosts with the help of a player character looking down on proceedings from above. It was utterly hilarious, and more than 2.5 million views of the video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpL2jp6mGVo) on YouTube suggested it wasn’t one of those“you had to be there” type things either.

This year we want to bring it back, BIGGER AND BETTER, and for that we need your help. We’re not just going to update the stats and add a one to the number on the end of the title, it’s going to improve immeasurably! But before we tell you how we’re going to make it amazing, we need you go to http://myfiercefestival.co.uk/vote-now and get us a venue for this madness.

The Fierce Festival (23rd– 26th May, venues across the West Midlands) has three slots open for‘Public Spaces’ and your vote can ensure Pac-Man gets in. You could actually vote once a day up until voting closes on April 11th, if you wanted to be REALLY supportive. We don’t expect that of you, though. You can have one-non voting day, as we are reasonable people. The top 10 least-votingest cities will be levelled with A-bombs like in Call of Duty 4.

It’d be too easy to do nothing and let the other tediously arty installations win. Something about an Ice Cream Van? Sorry, WHAT?!. Footwashing and dancing? It’s enough to make you want to kill yourself by running into a ghost. Games people: we need your support. Let’s show these arty types how amazing the thing we love is, and then, when they’re really into it, take it back home with us again.
