New version adds advanced terrain system
Australian online middleware company BigWorld has updated its eponymous MMO engine to version 1.9.
This update adds an advanced terrain engine, supporting unlimited texture layers, higher level of detail and configurable height, shadow, normal and texture map resolution. Improvements have also been made to the skybox and weather systems, as well as the integrations with SpeedTree and Umbra's visibility middleware.
In addition, support has been added for Perforce, SVN and CVS.
“BigWorld customers and developers currently evaluating the technology are very excited by this release as it enables them to implement some pretty amazing scenery in their games that would otherwise be difficult to achieve,” said Simon Hayes, BigWorld’s chief technology officer.
