TalentRaspel picks up Torque MMO kit for further development
Germany developer TalentRaspel has launched the latest version of the open-source Torque MMO kit.
First published last year by Prairie Games and GarageGames, the kit allows small teams to develop cross-platform massively-multiplayer online games, and is based on the code that powered 70,000 user-strong indie MMO Minions of Mirth.
After Prarie and GarageGames open-sourced the code, TalentRaspel took over the updating and maintenance of the code towards the end of 2007, and has recently released version 1.1 SP3 of the engine, which it describes as 'completely revised'.
Commercial development using the kit requires licenses for both the Torque engine and Faust Logic's Arcade FX effects library, which costs from $199 to $999 depending on sales expectations. TalentRaspel's patches are available for free, although the most recent service pack is only available to users paying for support.
