Visual arts competition challenges students to imagine next-next-gen

FDMX has teamed up with Sony Cambridge and East-of-England regional screen agency Screen East to launch a student competition imagining what the next generation of consoles will bring to the table.

Called 'The NEXT next-gen', the competition aims to promote the local talent of students on gaming, animation and multimedia-related degrees, and in the organiser's own words 'promote [games] as a respectable and stable career.'

The contest requires students to produce images of what future games will look like, and will be judged by industry professionals and displayed at a major exhibition in Cambridge.

“This competition asks students and games artists to look way over the horizon and imagine what games will look like by the time we get to Playstation 4 or 5. With next–generation games consoles allowing far superior gameplay and imagery, we thought the time was right to see what the next generation of creative artists can come up with,” said Saint John Walker, FDMX co-ordinator at Anglia Ruskin University.

More information about the competition can be found at the official competition website.
