New studio picks procedural texturing tech for upcoming XBLA game
Recent start-up WhiteMoon Dreams has licensed Allegorithmic's ProFX technology and texture authoring tool MaPZone for its first title, an Xbox Live Arcade title.
The studio chose to use ProFX to enable procedural texture support in its pipeline, dramatically reducing the size of produced maps to help keep within the strict Xbox Live Arcade size limit.
"MaPZone and ProFX are truly innovative and effective tools. Alone, MaPZone allows us to simplify the day-to-day task of creating and editing textures, and now with the addition of ProFX, our high-quality textures take up less storage space in our pipeline,” says Jay Koottarappallil, president and chief executive officer of WhiteMoon Dreams.
“These tools have truly addressed our need to create high-volume content for our new generation of game titles."
Dr. Sébastien Deguy, president and founder of Allegorithmic, added: “Jay and his team are among the best technical artists I know, and I’m thrilled that they chose ProFX. This project is highly advanced, featuring truly innovative mechanics and world-building strategies. By incorporating exceptional technologies such as ProFX, it becomes a uniquely advanced endeavor as a whole.”
