Women and minorities targeted for financial aid

The Entertainment Software Association, the US lobby group for the games industry, has pledged $45,000 in scholarships for games students.

The money has been specifically targeted at women and minorities, who are eligible to apply for a $3,000 scholarship. In addition to the 200 games courses in America, students may also apply if they are studying a tangental field such as graphic design, computer science, animation, programming and software engineering.

“Positions in our industry are high-paying jobs with a remarkable potential to inspire and entertain millions of Americans.

We hope these scholarships will encourage students to pursue careers in this growing and lucrative field,” said Michael Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA.

“We offer this program to help create our industry’s next generation who will boost the industry’s creative capital with new and unique approaches.”
