Our latest sector guide looks at the state of the game AI field
We’ve just posted November’s sector guide on Developmag.com, which this month takes a look at the past, present and future of game AI.
A few years ago, it seemed that the real renaissance in games would come around thanks to AI – with titles like Halo showing adaptive intelligence that enhanced the gaming experience greatly. And yet, the clamour died off, usurped by it’s more bombastic younger brother physics.
So, now that we’ve got a new generation of machines, and the benefit of multiple-processors on the high-end machines, what does this extra processing power mean for AI? And within the field itself, will the evolutions come from ground-breaking new ways of mapping the human mind, or will it be adaptations of already tried and tested algorithms?
